About Me

Hi everyone!  My name is Yashna and I go to Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. I decided to start this blog mainly because I love creating new dishes, whether I am cooking for myself or for others. Coming from a family that is absolutely crazy about food, I’ve always been encouraged to cook and to learn the health benefits of various foods throughout my life.

I transferred these lessons over to my new life at college when I entered the enormous dining halls of Rutgers University. I slowly learned which stations to avoid and which ones I should run toward. The first two months at Rutgers were pretty rough in terms of finding new things to eat: my friends and I engaged in an endless dull cycle of eating either pizza, pasta, or salad for our meals (being vegetarian made it all the more difficult.) I was hungry for change (literally) and fed up (sorry for all the puns), so I began experimenting with different food combinations and different ways of cooking them.

Although not all universities offer the same foods, my main purpose with this blog is to show students that it IS possible to experiment and that it IS possible to eat a variety of dishes using what is provided at the dining halls.

With that being said, welcome to my collection of recipes that I’ve made straight from the dining hall! I hope that you find something you like here, and I hope I can help some of you escape the same dull food cycle I once faced! Although your university may not offer the same foods that the Rutgers dining hall provides, you may be able to find substitutes. Even if you live off-campus or in an apartment with your own kitchen, many of my recipes have minimal ingredients and are health-focused (well, most of the time…).

Anyways, happy cooking! 🙂

P.S. (The majority of my recipes are from the dining hall, while a few will be made at my  home whenever I go back during my college’s breaks. Please feel free to leave a comment or a request on this page if you would like to see a specific dish made at the dining hall. Thanks for reading!)

  6. […] Thanks Yashna for tagging me for this award!! Hun, your blog is amazing! I found it on one of my daily scrolls through the “food” tag…and it was basically love at first sight. If you’re in college (or just love food blogs) check her out. Yashana is definitely the exception because most college kids I know are completely uninspired when it comes to meals. People, she actually cooks healthy meals in her dormroom…I, on the other hand microwave 90% of my meals. Girl, you’re living my dreams.  […]
